Washington was caught days later, driving drunk in his victim's rental car after hitting a pedestrian and crashing into a building on Grand Concourse around 3 a.m. 19., 2014, according to court documents and the Bronx DA's office.He tried to escape on foot by running into a subway station, but passersby held him until police arrived, the Bronx DA's office said."I only had one Long Island Ice[d] Tea earlier in the night," Washington said, according to the criminal complaint.Several of his relatives were in court to support him, including his wife, April, whom he married while at Rikers Island.
His lengthy criminal record includes a 2003 robbery conviction for which he served state time, and other past convictions for assault and criminal obstruction of breathing.
"What you have demonstrated from the crimes of which you were convicted…make it manifestly clear, sir, that you are an extremely dangerous person," the judge said before handing down her sentence.
Kenneth Washington, 36, lured a woman he wooed on the website Plenty Of back to an apartment on the Grand Concourse and Walton Ave. The unidentified woman helped stuff the victim into the Hyundai SUV and held her down while Washington drunkenly zigzagged up and down the Grand Concourse, the victim told jurors.
The victim testified during the trial that Washington forced her to have sex with him in the apartment.
Justice Barbara Newman sentenced Washington, who had multiple prior convictions, to 17 years in prison and 20 years of post-release supervision on Wednesday, roughly two months after he was convicted by a jury of crimes including rape, grand larceny, unlawful imprisonment and drunk driving.
